Winter hiking in Saalbach

Winter hiking in paradise

Don’t feel like going skiing? Or does a day away from the slopes sound appealing? That’s no problem in the home of the laid back! On over 140 kilometres of winter hiking trails, you can get to know the magical wintry landscape of Saalbach on foot. Some of the winter hikes start right from the Goldstück.

For the others, we recommend taking the ski bus, which will shuttle you to wherever it is your hike starts, every 20 minutes. Specialist equipment isn’t really necessary for WINTER HIKING. But we recommend wearing good shoes and warm clothing. A particularly lovely way to experience even more of the winter region is with the SONNENKARTE. This pass is available from all mountain lifts. You’ll find the prices here.

Two mountain and valley trips a day without ski equipment are included with the Sonnenkarte. It’s ideal for sun worshippers and for meeting up with friends at a hut at lunchtime. The pass also allows you to use the ski bus for free. Regardless of whether there’s beautiful sunshine or romantic snowfall, a winter hike will most definitely bring a lot of happiness. And because it’s so beautiful, we don’t want to deprive you of our two favourite paths:

Along the Sonnseitpromenade

Meaning “sunny side promenade”, the name of this hike says it all. It starts at the Goldstück, going up the mountain from Bergstraße. After that, you reach the Hotel Eggerdorf, where the promenade begins. Simply follow the well-signposted path. After three kilometres you’ll reach the centre of SAALBACH. Then you get back onto the hiking path. It is a ten-kilometre hike with an elevation gain of 500 metres and a jaw-dropping view.

Winter hiking at the end of the valley

A WINTER HIKE at THE END OF THE VALLEY in Saalbach proves to be romantic and idyllic. The best option is to use the ski bus and take it to Lengau, where the hike begins. Simply follow the well-signposted path. A rushing stream will guide you for 2.5 kilometres through a magical winter landscape. The hustle and bustle disappear. You might be passed by a HORSE-DRAWN SLED every now and then, but not much else. After about 30 minutes of walking, you’ll reach the LINDLINGALM restaurant. Where you can warm up with a mulled wine and pancakes before heading back either on foot or by TOBOGGAN.
